Meet Board Member Leon Cattolico, Medical Director of the Infirmary at Yavapai County Detention Center
Biography & Experience
I was born in Philadelphia, PA, and attended Temple University School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1966. I worked in retail Pharmacy until 1970, when I started Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1974. I pursued a career in Family Medicine in Pennsylvania until 1999, when I relocated to Cottonwood, Arizona. I practiced Family Medicine at various sites and eventually became Medical Director of the Infirmary at Yavapai County Detention Center in Camp Verde in 2019. I continue in that position today.I have been married since 1969 to my wife, Mary, and have four children, of whom I am very proud. In 2011, I became associated with MATFORCE and, with their help and cooperation, successfully passed the legislation, making it necessary for medical practitioners to consult an online database before prescribing any controlled substance for their patients. This effort has helped to diminish the amount of narcotics and other dangerous drugs used today. It has helped those afflicted with dependence on the substances to seek relief and resume normal life patterns.I became acquainted with Damien Browning in 2012 and was impressed with his enthusiasm as he started his program and continued to push for the success he has accomplished today. There continues to be a significant problem in our city, county, and country with the onset of Fentanyl abuse, and programs such as Steps to Recovery Homes will continue to gain importance as this problem progresses. I am proud to have become part of this effort and anticipate continued success.
