Assessment Individual Therapy Case Management Intensive Outpatient Program Enhanced Outpatient Program Holistic refers to a “whole person” approach to health care interventions—a simultaneous focus on the mind and body for complete healing. Many treatment centers see holistic approaches as an opportunity for patients to better attend to both their psychological and physical needs. With holistic approaches such as yoga, meditation, massage therapy, and acupuncture, patients may see improvements not only in their rehabilitation but also in other parts of their daily life. In general, rehab programs that incorporate holistic techniques carefully consider an integrated physical, mental, and spiritual model to build out a comprehensive treatment regimen for substance use disorders. Several of these techniques are also categorized as alternative or complementary treatments, some of which are based on practices that derive from cultural traditions. Examples of these include: -> Massage. -> Acupuncture and acupressure. -> Reiki and other types of energy work. -> Yoga and meditation. -> Biofeedback and neurofeedback. -> Nutritional therapy. -> Herbal medicines. These are just some of the wide ranges of treatments described as holistic. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, about 4 out of 10 adults in the United States use some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and the trend seems to be expanding. A key feature that runs throughout many of these techniques is that they are intended, at the root, to treat the whole person and improve overall well-being rather than target a single element of an individual’s symptoms or behaviors. With this in mind, a holistic approach to addiction treatment should ideally aim to not only curtail isolated addictive behaviors, but to adequately address a broad set of factors that play a role in the development of the addiction to begin with. In some cases, holistic approaches are used to augment certain aspects of more standard recovery efforts. In doing so, these approaches may help with: -> Certain withdrawal symptoms (e.g., massage/acupuncture for muscle aches/pains). -> Stress or other emotional issues that may have supported the development of compulsive patterns of substance use. -> A lack of spiritual grounding. -> Unhealthy eating habits and resulting malnutrition in conjunction with chronic substance use. Some techniques, such as Reiki, aim to correct a theoretical energetic imbalance through body-energy manipulation. Adherents of CAM practices advocate that they can improve chances of lasting recovery from substance use disorders.2 However, it is generally recommended that holistic therapies be used in combination with standard treatment efforts, and not as a replacement for more traditional, evidence-based approaches. Those who are looking into holistic treatment programs may find it difficult to find research backing the efficacy of such treatments. Not a lot of research has been done on various holistic therapies, and the research that does exist is often inconclusive. For this reason, the effectiveness of the techniques in supporting lasting recovery from addiction is still largely unknown, and it is sometimes hotly argued. In some cases, holistic treatments could attract people who might otherwise not be interested in conventional treatments, make them more comfortable with entering treatment, and may make them more willing to try other, research-based treatments that provide a greater likelihood of long-term recovery. In addition, the use of these therapies can help people feel more at ease, more productive in their treatment response, and generally better able to cope with the challenges of detox and rehab. For these reasons, holistic practices can be a positive complement to the more evidence-based modalities. Most experts agree that conventional, research-based detox and treatment for addiction, provided through a residential program, is more likely to support an individual in maintaining recovery. The holistic label may indicate a wide range of complementary or alternative treatment offerings. When considering various rehabilitation centers, people may need to do some research into what each specific location advertises as holistic offerings. They may need to ask about the therapies offered, the training of the people providing the therapies, and the cost of care, for example. Though many CAM treatments lack an evidence-base when it comes to their efficacy in addiction treatment, there is evidence that satisfaction with treatment is related to treatment retention and treatment completion measures, both of which may equate with more favorable treatment outcomes.3 It is reasonable to assume that certain holistic therapies, such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and massage, as used to augment more traditional addiction treatment therapies, like individual counseling, behavioral therapies, and medical detox, can add to such treatment satisfaction, in some instances. With the number of addiction treatment programs available, you might feel overwhelmed by options. However, you can make the right choice by learning about the types of treatment programs typically used for substance abuse. In a partial hospitalization program known as a PHP, you’ll have the flexibility of living at home while still receiving intensive treatment for addiction. At Steps to Recovery Homes Outpatient Treatment Center (STRH), we offer a PHP where you’ll overcome addiction alongside others who have walked down similar roads. Through group therapy, you’ll find your peers' support and begin healing. A partial hospitalization program is a second step in the addiction treatment process for many people. For some, an inpatient rehab program like medical detox is a necessary first step. During an inpatient program, patients will live on-site at the addiction treatment center and will only leave under special circumstances. However, in a partial hospitalization program, patients live at home or in community housing. Meanwhile, they undergo intensive treatment at an addiction treatment center like Konnect Wellness Center. If you’re unsure whether a PHP is right for you, there are a few things to consider. Some include the following: To find out if our partial hospitalization program is right for you, contact Konnect Wellness Center today. The partial hospitalization program is the most intensive level of treatment offered at Konnect Wellness Center. PHP approaches treatment on a part-time but still intensive basis to give you the support you need to continue making progress in early recovery. We create individualized substance abuse treatment plans for everyone in our care. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, personalizing treatment plans to every patient’s needs is an important principle of effective treatment. So, at Konnect Wellness Center, you’ll go through an assessment as soon as you enter an addiction treatment program. All of our rehab programs treat addiction's mental, physical, and spiritual sides. Your comprehensive therapy plan focuses on the mental and spiritual aspects, but we will also address your physical needs. We have a nurse practitioner on-site to assess you and administer any necessary medications. Our PHP engages each individual in an intense, individualized therapy plan. You’ll learn to share and communicate honestly through group and individual settings. Group members will offer new perspectives on your experiences. Through the structure and security of the program, you can begin to take control of your addictions and move forward. At Konnect Wellness Center, we believe families can also recover from substance abuse. We will give you the tools to mend broken relationships and heal damaged families. Hands-on support for your family is an incredible resource. We offer support services for any of your loved ones, including family support groups and family therapy sessions. Our staff will help your family understand addiction and learn to create healthy boundaries. If you or someone you love is struggling with substance abuse, you may know that a wide variety of treatment programs are available. From residential to outpatient programs, the options can seem overwhelming. Yet when you’re ready to overcome addiction, you know that a professionally staffed addiction treatment center is the right choice. At Konnect Wellness Center, we offer an intensive outpatient rehab program, also known as an IOP, for those looking for freedom and flexibility during treatment. You’ll receive support and accountability from both our addiction specialists and your peers at our center. And through intensive therapy, you’ll learn the healthy coping skills you need to handle stress in your daily life. Our goal is for you to find lasting, meaningful recovery from the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol through our intensive outpatient program. While medical detox or other residential addiction treatment programs can be a good first step for beginning your journey to recovery, an intensive outpatient rehab program offers some unique benefits. Those suffering from more severe addictions or serious co-occurring mental health disorders would likely do best in inpatient treatment. However, you can live at home or with other recovery-focused peers in intensive outpatient rehab. To determine whether or not intensive outpatient addiction treatment is right for you, consider the following questions: Traditional inpatient treatment programs are also less costly than intensive outpatient rehab or outpatient treatment options. And at Konnect Wellness Center, we incorporate principles of effective treatment into everything we do. Every individual in our care receives a personalized treatment plan based on their unique needs. During your time in our intensive outpatient rehab program, you’ll discover how to live a happy, healthy life free from drugs and alcohol. Our addiction specialists will help you learn the tools and strategies you need for lifelong recovery. Our Outpatient Treatment programs focus on applying the skills you’ve learned in treatment to daily life stresses and early recovery. You’ll hear from others who have experienced similar struggles through group therapy. Your group members can provide support and accountability. You’ll also have individual addiction therapy sessions with a therapist who can help you further understand the underlying causes of addiction and plan for the future. While in intensive outpatient addiction treatment, you can take steps towards independence. Our goal is for you to have the tools you need for lifelong recovery. Your therapists will set goals for your recovery and provide support as you work to reach them. Family Support Addiction can damage relationships. However, at Konnect Wellness Center, we believe that relationships can be healed. We help the family unit as well as individuals through family therapy and support groups. A therapist will help your family set healthy boundaries. Additionally, they’ll learn how to be a source of support during your recovery. Once you’ve completed an intensive outpatient addiction treatment program, you can continue to outpatient rehab. At Konnect Wellness Center, this is our least intensive addiction treatment program. You’ll enjoy a higher level of independence while working on the healthy coping skills you’ve learned in treatment. Our goal is for you to have the tools you need for lifelong recovery. We’ll connect you with outside resources while providing you with accountability and support in group and individual therapy sessions. You can begin to take on more responsibilities at home, at work, and at school while using the strategies for success you learn in an addiction treatment program. Although many individuals in outpatient rehab live at home, some clients benefit from the support of a community housing program. You’ll spend time at an addiction treatment center in therapy sessions regardless of where you live during outpatient addiction treatment. You might also have the opportunity to participate in wellness programs like exercise classes, art therapy, and meditation. These programs are offered because effective addiction treatment should care for an individual’s physical, mental, and spiritual needs. Recovering from substance abuse is a lifelong process. Outpatient rehab is a typical last step for individuals who are going through a formal addiction treatment program. At Konnect Wellness Center, we will equip you with the strategies you need to handle stress and triggers in your everyday life. And for difficult times, you’ll have a network of support to fall back on in our alumni program and from those in your group therapy sessions. If you’re not sure whether or not outpatient rehab is the right treatment program for you, consider the following guidelines: If the above applies to you, the outpatient program at Konnect Wellness Center might be right for you. At Konnect Wellness Center, our outpatient rehab gives you an extra resource and layer of accountability during early recovery and beyond. Our team will continue to work with you as you move through early recovery and begin your path to creating a life beyond your wildest dreams. Through several addiction treatment therapies, wellness opportunities, and aftercare planning, you’ll leave our program with all of the tools you need for lifelong sobriety. While you work on rebuilding your life in outpatient addiction treatment, you’ll have more independence. Yet, with this increased independence, you can encounter stress or other triggers that could tempt you to relapse. For this reason, during your time in outpatient rehab at Konnect Wellness Center, you’ll work on strategies for success in therapy sessions. Konnect Wellness Center
